Satellite Pictures Show Iranian Naval Forces and Nuclear Sites Hit by Joint US and Israeli Strikes.

A wave of joint strikes has according to analysis destroyed or damaged no fewer than eleven Iran's navy ships starting the weekend, recently obtained satellite images reveal, with rocket sites and enrichment plants also coming under fire.

Pictures of the southern Konarak naval military port and the Bandar Abbas port facility, which is located on the Strait of Hormuz and contains the main command of the Iranian navy, show smoke billowing from several warships on recent days.

Maritime Fleet Incurred Substantial Damage

Included in the vessels destroyed was the Makran, the country's most sizable ship which had been used as a drone carrier. Aerial imagery displayed black smoke pouring from the ship which had been stationed at the Bandar Abbas naval base.

Intelligence reports suggest that at least five vessels at Bandar Abbas were "hit or sunk". Pictures of the south end of the port show smoke emanating from the Makran, while additional ships appear to be harmed, with one of them clearly on fire.

Over at the Konarak base, photos reveal several harmed ships, with intelligence reports identifying strikes against a half-dozen warships. Pictures taken on Monday also demonstrate that a number of facilities at the base have been destroyed.

"For many years the Tehran government has disrupted international shipping," a senior US military official stated. "At present, there is no Iranian vessel operational in the Arabian Gulf, Hormuz Strait or Gulf of Oman, and we will not stop."

A number of ships allegedly sunk may have been hidden in aerial photos by haze or plumes, or targeted offshore, and have not been conclusively proven. Other accounts stated that a ship from Iran was going down near Sri Lankan territorial waters, resulting in a search and rescue mission.

Missile Sites and Atomic Locations Hit

Eliminating Iranian missile bases and the prevention of atomic bomb programs were declared as further goals of the military strikes. Satellite images also depicted damage at the southern Khorgu and north-western Tabriz facilities, and at the Konarak air base, where missile storage facilities and fortifications were struck.

Over at the Choqa Balk-e drone drone base west of the city of Kermanshah, extensive damage was observed to warehouses, underground facilities and unmanned aircraft systems.

Impact was also observed at a surveillance station at the Zahedan airbase military airport in eastern parts of the country, near the frontier with neighboring nations.

Of particular note, the most recent series of attacks have apparently hit facilities at Natanz – considered at the heart of Iran's nuclear programme. The UN's atomic energy body said that the damaged buildings were used for access to the facility's below-ground enrichment facility and that "no release of radioactive material" was expected.

Wider Impact and Analysis

Observers suggested that the offensive appeared to have "significantly degraded" the Iran's naval capability to conduct conventional attacks using its most significant vessels. However, it was emphasised that Iran retains the ability to launch irregular strikes at sea through the use of drones, midget subs and its so-called "shadow fleet" of oil ships.

The full scale of the damage caused to Iran's defense infrastructure has yet to be fully assessed, with strikes reportedly ongoing. Photos also indicates widespread destruction to the main offices of the Iran's Revolutionary Guards in the city of Tehran.

A large number of non-military structures also seem to have been damaged in the capital city and throughout the country after the hostilities escalated. Reports of deaths from local officials indicate that hundreds of non-combatants may have been lost their lives in the attacks.

As the situation develops, review of satellite imagery will persist to track the evolving battlefield picture.
