President Trump Calls Families of Attacked Guard Personnel to the Presidential Residence

President Donald Trump revealed on Sunday that he has extended an invitation the family of a Guard member tragically killed last week to come to the White House.

He added that he contacted her parents and they were “heartbroken”.

Background on the Heartbreaking Shooting

US army specialist Sarah Beckstrom, twenty years old, was fatally shot in a shooting on Wednesday in DC.

Her fellow service member, US air force staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, 24, continues receiving treatment in critical condition.

Vigils across the state have been held in their honor.

White House Offer

The president said he’s proposed a visit to the White House for the loved ones of both soldiers of the state National Guard.

“I said: ‘When you’re able, because that’s a tough thing, visit the White House. We’re going to pay tribute to her,” Trump addressed journalists. “And likewise with Andrew, recover or not.”

Community Support

Attendees gathered over the past few days at the high school in West Virginia to pay respects to Sarah.

Both she and Wolfe had been serving with the West Virginia National Guard as part of the president’s national effort to aid law enforcement in DC.

Honoring Sarah Beckstrom

“She was the individual that teachers hoped for. She behaved with inner fortitude, a warm expression and a positive energy that encouraged those around her,” Jarrod Hankins, the principal of her former high school, told the Associated Press. “She was caring, considerate and always eager to assist people.”

Service plans for Sarah are in the process of planning.

Legal Measures and Policy Revisions

Officials have accused a twenty-nine-year-old Afghan national with one count of first-degree murder and charges of violent assault while armed.

The tragedy prompted the government to suspend asylum applications and temporarily stop providing visas to possessors of passports from Afghanistan.

Condition of Wolfe

The airman, a native of the city, enlisted in February 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of his local high school, as reported by the news agency.

He is still undergoing care and is “in a critical fight”, West Virginia leader Morrisey mentioned on Fox News Channel’s The Sunday Briefing.

The state’s top lawyer Bondi stated on the program that she aimed to meet with his relatives.

Legacy of Beckstrom

Sarah, from her hometown, graduated from Webster County high school in 2023 and joined the military shortly after, working as a law enforcement officer with honor, as stated by the West Virginia National Guard.

“She had a lot of kindness and she definitely had fortitude,” Morrisey addressed the gathering at the service. “Though her time lasted far too short, she has created a legacy that’s going to endure.”
