Pat Bamford Joins Sheffield United After Initiating Derogatory Songs About Coach Chris Wilder
The striker is now a member of the Championship side only half a year following starting derogatory songs directed at the team's coach, Wilder.
This experienced striker, a free agent after departing from Leeds United, has signed a deal joining the second-tier strugglers until January. His seven-year career at Elland Road concluded amicably this past summer.
Among Bamford’s final notable acts as a Leeds player included starting abusive songs regarding Chris Wilder amid the club’s success festivities this spring. Now, the one-cap England player will be playing for Wilder as Sheffield United's boss aims to rescue the team he loves away from the relegation zone.
Previous Conflict Between the Striker & Wilder
Both men had previous conflict prior to Leeds earned promotion to the top flight the previous campaign and United lost the playoff final by Sunderland. Wilder described the forward as a "muppet" back when the situation was different in 2018-19 and Sheffield United won direct promotion while Leeds missed out in the promotion playoffs.
Making Amends & Moving Forward
Everything seems to have been forgiven and forgotten with Sheffield United, the Championship’s lowest scorers, in desperate need of a boost up front while Bamford hoping to revive his career.
The Wilder chant gained traction in April. A repentant Patrick along with Leeds boss, Daniel Farke, phoned the Sheffield United manager the next day.
Wilder commented back then: “Spoke with Pat yesterday and I have no issue at all with that. I’m not sure about the words used from a fellow professional! However I appreciated and admired him giving me a call.
“We spent a short while and the same again I talked with Daniel Farke as well and we had a longer discussion with him and he is a great person, a top guy. Back in my playing days we used to dish it out and accept it and that is an integral part of football across all levels, even on a Sunday morning. I have absolutely no issue. I'm fine with the situation and I said that to Pat.”
Recent Career Struggles
Bamford made 18 appearances for Leeds last season however the former Nottingham Forest, Chelsea FC and Boro player has struggled with injury in recent years.
