Manchester United Poised to Secure Germany Forward Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants

Manchester United are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Marquee Signing for the WSL Side

The forward, with six months left on her contract, has been a prolific goalscorer for both club and country. Having scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. Her arrival is viewed as a marquee coup for the WSL team.

Departure from Munich was expected after she appeared to be holding back emotions while thanking the German club’s supporters after a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

Reports in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its top forwards. Per multiple sources, all the paperwork for the transfer have now been completed.

Consistent Goalscoring to Boost United's Forward Line

The experienced striker's signing is expected to provide a major boost to United’s attacking options. Schüller has been highly consistent in front of goal in the Bundesliga.

  • Over seven consecutive seasons, including the last term, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She won the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Building Steam at Old Trafford

Securing Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when United appear to be gathering momentum.

Their recent on-pitch successes include qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the mid-season window has brought further activity:

  1. The acquisition of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since arriving in 2023.

On Miyazawa’s extension, a senior figure stated: “Miyazawa is now a vital part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability allows her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”

Lundkvist, who has arrived from a club in the American league, said: “You can sense how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
