‘I Question the Usefulness’, Says Jennifer Lawrence

During a discussion, she reflected, “During the first Trump administration, I felt like I was acting frantically like a chicken with my head cut off. But it’s become clear, over multiple voting cycles, Hollywood stars do not make a difference whatsoever on electoral choices.”

She continued, “So then what am I doing? I’m just expressing personal views on something that’s going to add fuel to a fire dividing the country apart.”

Changing Allegiances

Lawrence has previously been open about backing conservative and liberal contenders in past elections. Raised by a right-leaning family in her home state, she cast her ballot for John McCain in the 2008 election before joining the Democratic party and revealing she understood during the Obama era that voting Republican was undermining her individual liberties as a woman.

Previous Comments

In 2015, she stated that a Trump victory might signal “a disaster” and endorsed Joe Biden in the 2020 presidential race. During the most recent election, she lent her support to the Democratic nominee, “since I believe she’s an amazing candidate and I am confident that she will do whatever she can to defend abortion access.”

Lawrence was joined by most of Hollywood in her disapproval of Donald Trump as a returning figure, but the lack of leverage public figures have over the electoral decisions was emphasized by Trump’s victory.
