A trio of officers lost their lives and at least 15 people got wounded in a seemingly deliberate blast caused by gas at a country home in northern Italy.

Sequence of Events

The explosion took place as police and firefighters went into the residence close to Verona to execute an court-ordered eviction for three siblings who were older adults.

Each of the three deceased individuals were members of the Italian military police.

Legal Proceedings

Two individuals got detained at the site and one more individual who ran away subsequent to the explosion was apprehended soon after. Each of them have been admitted to medical facility.

The blast could be noticed approximately 5 kilometers away and images from the area revealed the property reduced to a heap of debris.

Those injured by the incident included an additional 11 personnel of the Carabinieri as well as three members of Italy's state police and a emergency responder.

According to the prosecuting attorney, the property was in a dilapidated shape and had was without power.

The official thought the explosion had happened on a story above the doorway and informed journalists it was a “deliberate and pre-planned murder”. Shortly before the incident, he mentioned members had “noticed a hissing sound, probably the gas canisters being activated”.

Community Reaction

“All of us understood the scenario was critical,” neighbors informed local news, noting that the family members had earlier warned to “blow themselves up” rather than vacate the property.

“The blast resulted in a ‘horrific, deeply distressing and tragic cost’.”

Defence Minister Minister Crosetto joined other elected representatives in commemorating the trio of personnel who had lost their lives in the line of duty.
