Eulogies Continue for Rob and Michele Reiner as Medical Examiner's Findings Face a Security Hold.
More than two weeks subsequent to the heartbreaking passing of celebrated filmmaker Rob Reiner and his wife, photographer Michele Reiner, peers and loved ones continue to honor the couple.
A Heartfelt Farewell: Cary Elwes Recalls His Director
Sharing on Instagram, actor Cary Elwes, who starred in Reiner's beloved 1987 film *The Princess Bride*, stated he finally felt able to post publicly about his deep grief.
"Enough time has passed that I can at last express my sorrow into words," wrote Elwes, saying that his first meeting with Reiner made him fall in love. "Once we started passing more hours together I understood this was someone I desired in my life."
The actor posted never-before-seen clips from the production, adding that he could not remember "a single day without mirth".
"This story is about devotion, fidelity and selflessness. Values that Rob held dear. Which is among the many reasons he was the best person to helm it," Elwes expressed.
He went on to praise Michele Reiner, noting: "Asserting that they were a great team would be an understatement. My heart still aches every time I remember you." He concluded with a line from *The Princess Bride*: "Indeed, death cannot stop true love but existence is agony without you."
Martin Scorsese Reflects on a Friend and Collaborator
In a separate essay, acclaimed director Martin Scorsese shared memories of Reiner, whom he originally knew in the 1970s.
"Right away, I loved hanging out with Rob. We had a innate rapport for each other. He was very funny and sometimes sharply witty, but he was never the kind of guy who would take over the room," Scorsese shared.
Scorsese pointed out Reiner's acting part in his 2013 film *The Wolf of Wall Street*, portraying the father of the main character.
"He could improvise with the best. He was a expert at comedy, he worked beautifully with the cast, and he comprehended the human predicament of his character," Scorsese wrote.
Legal Developments: Autopsy Reports Restricted
Recently, a Los Angeles judge decided to block the publication of the Reiners' autopsy reports, after an appeal from the local authorities.
A court order placed a security hold on the investigation to restrict the public release of "related notes, evidence and photographs" associated with the probe.
The Medical Examiner's office had previously confirmed their deaths were the consequence of homicide, with a public database citing the cause as "injuries from a sharp object".
Response and Criticism
In the wake of the tragedy, public personalities expressed different comments.
Former President Donald Trump posted on the matter, offering controversial statements that were met with immediate backlash by several individuals.
Podcaster Joe Rogan lent his criticism to the critics last week. Conversing on his podcast, Rogan characterized the comments as "disturbing" and implied they demonstrated a worrisome absence of compassion.
Rogan ended by suggesting that an adviser could have stepped in when the impulse to weigh in on the tragedy was made.
